Types A, AB, B, & High-Low
A self tapping screw is a type of screw that is designed to "tap" its own threads into a pre-existing hole, which is created by drilling, punching, or nesting. These screws are commonly called sheet metal screws.
Point/Thread Types:
- Type A Self Tapping Screw - Used in thin sheet metal .015" to .050" thick, also can be used in resin impregnated plywood, and other combinations of material
- Type B Self Tapping Screw - For use in thicker sheet meal .050" - .200" thick, also non-ferrous castings, plastics, plywoods, asbestos combinations, and other materials. Thicker root diameter and finer threads than Type A Sheet metal screws.
- Type AB Self Tapping Screw - Combines the locating point of a Type A Sheet Metal Screw with the larger diameter and finer threads of a Type B Sheet Metal Screws. For use in the same applications as Type B Sheet Metal Screws.
